The windows here, as far as I know, are characteristic of Malay architecture, but I could be far off. Similar to the construction of the bahay na bato, except there are stone walls for the silong. Here we have stone pillars for the silong and a wooden upper floor. The status quo on opinions thereabouts where I come from is that the bahay na bato is from the Spanish whatever that entails.Īt the very least, this image can serve as a point of comparison regarding the development of bahay na bato from purely wooden to partly stone. I know the general supposition about origin of bahay na bato is probably well-known but my claim is based purely on my observation and almost no reading. This 'petrification' of Malay architecture supports my thesis about the pre-Hispanic origins of the bahay na bato. This usage of the word Malay refers to the Malay ethnicity and Malay first-language speakers.
